English signage in schools

At the schools where I work, they post English phrases and aphorisms everywhere.  Some of them are funny, some of them are strangely profound.  I was having a bad day today, because my students were misbehaving, and I saw a quote about one day’s troubles not being a big deal.  It was oddly encouraging.  This one was just way too appropriate.Image

Deodorant in Taiwan

I teach at a government school in Yunlin County Taiwan. I wanted to start a blog because I found some misinformation repeated on other websites, and I wanted to give another set of insights into teaching and living in Taiwan as a westerner.

The first thing I want you to know is: deodorant is readily available. Seriously. I read over and over again that you couldn’t find it anywhere. I don’t know where this idea came about. I live in a rural area and there is deodorant in the grocery storelets in my tiny town. So don’t worry about deodorant. Basically, Taiwan is a cosmetics wonderland, which is really fun if you like cosmetics.
